Work Location/Address:The job shall be performed at the location directed by the employer. The assigned work location for this position is Maryland Judicial Center 187 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401. The incumbent is required to report to work at that location pursuant to their work schedule unless allowed or directed to work at a different location for job-related reasons, at the sole discretion and authority of the Judiciary. Such alternate locations may include, but not be limited to: any court location or Judiciary facility within the state; any non-Judiciary facility, either within or outside the state, at which the incumbent is required to attend a conference, meeting, proceeding, training, or for other reasons; or, if allowed to telework by the Judiciary, an approved remote telework site.


Purpose of Role: The Finance Supervisor manages the Accounts Payable Unit, which includes 5 staff members. This position also manages all aspects of accounts payable to include the creation of batches and the assignment of invoice batches to the Accounts Payable Associates, delegation of other work-related tasks and assignments, and ensuring that the payment process is efficiently and effectively progressing, at all times. In addition, this position provides training and develops procedures for the accounting process within the department; provides quality customer support to internal and external customers; identifies inefficiencies in the process; informs management of major personnel issues, major procedural problems or politically sensitive issues; and makes

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience related to accounting, budget, finance, or reporting.

Note:

  • Professional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of GAD's and the Judiciary's policies and procedures
  • Skills in understanding the financial systems, and able to teach department staff and Judiciary staff across the state.
  • Ability to structure and communicate materials effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to create policies and procedures to keep the staff updated and informed on major issues.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, organize, and present solutions to potential problems, take action based on conclusions, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize the workload, maximize productivity, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and processes, in addition to numerous software programs such as Microsoft Office, GEARS-People-soft, FMIS, Intranet, and Internet
  • Skills in multi-tasking, such as using Excel performing arithmetical calculations and accurate computation and communicating with staff and vendors.
  • Ability to create handouts and deliver a presentation clearly and accurately to an audience with varied skill levels.
  • Ability to take action, try new ideas, set standards, be willing to go beyond the required effort, anticipate issues, work independently, be self-motivated and driven.
  • Ability to mentor, motivate and inspire others, follow and communicate shared visions and goals, contribute to a harmonious work environment.
  • Ability to establish and reassess position priorities, recognize conflicting information and refer to Management, implement actions in an ambiguous environment, lead or follow as the situation needs.
